Abstract

Title : State of the art in high compression coding techniques
Authors : Jean-Pierre d'Alès and Jacques Froment

The objective of the project is to provide a state of the art report on the three lossless, fractal and wavelet techniques, and review and provide state of the art software code on the above techniques. The work done has reached the required objectives. The three methods have been explored by the participating partners, and computer code has been produced and has been tested on a common test image to compute measurements that demonstrate the performances of the three approaches. The selected test image has been the well known grey scale "Lena" image, size 512x512, 8 bit. The comparison has been measured by computing the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) expressed in dB units, and by computing the compression ratio between the original and the compressed file. The final report includes: technical reports from the participating partners, that illustrate the state of the art in the field, and the source code of the algorithms that the partners have implemented.
